Susan Sawatzky is an independent health and safety consultant specializing in Fatigue and Stress Management.


Susan is a part-time instructor at the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary and with the University of New Brunswick instructing Workplace Fatigue and Stress Management, Psychological Health & Safety, Business & Leadership and Safety Management Systems in their respective HSE Programs. She is also a certified External COR Auditor.

Susan speaks internationally on the topic of fatigue management and stress management in the workplace and consults with a wide variety of industry clients to assist in finding appropriate organizational fatigue solutions.  She addresses the topics of fatigue and stress management in the workplace via presentations, workshops, organizational assessments and corporate consultation.

Susan recently drafted fatigue based legislation currently being proposed for Alberta OHS Legislation*.  Previous industry experience has included managing the Fatigue Portfolio for the Canadian Oil and Gas Industry and serving on the industry’s Fatigue Steering Committee.  Susan has worked with a broad range of industries including: oil and gas, mining, utilities, municipalities, heavy duty equipment, health care professionals, transportation, retail, manufacturing, and fisheries.

In her personal life Susan is an avid runner who is inspired by travel, scuba diving and doing international volunteer work.

*Please note the following qualifier.  The Fatigue Legislation was submitted to the Province of Alberta at the end of September, 2014.  The legislation will go through a process of legal and industry review prior to any decision being made regarding implementation.
